The All England Club said on Sunday that British number one Johanna Konta has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon after a member of her squad tested positive for Covid-19.
The 27th-seeded Konta was found to have been in intimate communication with a team member, and is now compelled to self-isolate for ten days, according to the All England Club.
According to a statement, "a member of Johanna Konta's squad appeared with COVID-19 symptoms this morning, and was immediately isolated and subjected to a PCR test in accordance with The Championships' testing protocols."
Monday is the first day of the Grand Slam competition. Because of the epidemic, Wimbledon was cancelled in 2020, the first time it hadn't been played since 1945.
Konta, a 2017 Wimbledon semifinalist, is the first singles player from either the women's or men's division to be forced to quit due to coronavirus procedures.
Konta, 30, has also reached the finals of the Australian Open in 2016 and the French Open in 2019.
Konta's withdrawal will shock the rest of the competition, and it will be a major setback for the 30-year-old, who won the Nottingham championship in the build-up to Wimbledon.
She was in the bubble with her fiancee, Dan Smethurst, and Gill Myburgh, her strength and conditioning instructor.
"Both persons have been informed of the positive test and close contact categorization, and they will be self-isolating for the next ten days."
Wang Yafan of China, the lucky loser, will take Konta's position in the draw.
On Tuesday, Konta was set to face Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the first round of Wimbledon.
