Surat and Indore won the best award for their overall performance in 2020, while Uttar Pradesh won the state award, out of 100 Smart Cities. Madhya Pradesh came in second place, while Tamil Nadu finished in third place.
In this regard, the Minister of Madhya Pradesh tweeted that no less than 11 out of 20 awards were given to smart cities of Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Sagar, and Jabalpur, reflecting the hard work of the people, who work tirelessly on smart city projects.
He congratulated the Indore government after the city entered the list of top 10 cities in terms of livability published by the Center. Indore ranks 9th among cities with more than one million inhabitants.
The Minister also praised the efforts of Indore and Bhopal authorities after these cities ranked first and third respectively in the city performance index published by the central government.
Indore, who has won the Swachh Cities Award four times in a row, has been voted a Global Smart City Winner, along with Surat, in the Housing Department Smart Cities Awards competition Degrees (ISAC) and Union Urban Affairs for 2020. The results were announced on Friday.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, recently released the Ease of Living Index and the City Performance Index. According to the report, two lists, that of cities with more than one million inhabitants and less than one million inhabitants, were published based on an assessment of 111 cities. Indore followed by Surat and Bhopal are the highest-ranked municipalities, while Kota, Guwahati, and Srinagar are the lowest-ranked.
According to the list, Bangalore tops the list of cities with more than one million inhabitants, while Shimla takes the top spot with less than one million inhabitants. Additionally, among municipalities with less than one million residents, New Delhi City Council ranks first, while the cities of Imphal, Shillong, and Kohima are at the bottom of the list.
