On Monday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a major economic pronouncement. The minister said at a press conference in New Delhi, emphasising that the COVID pandemic will have a significant impact on the impacted sectors. She stated that the government has approved a loan guarantee plan worth Rs 1.1 crore for COVID-19-affected industries.
When India was afflicted by the first wave of Coronavirus last year, the government announced many relief measures, including an Aatmnirbhar Bharat stimulus package in May 2020.
The Finance Minister promised Rs 50,000 crore in the health sector for expanding medical facilities during the press briefing.
The government has also set aside Rs 60,000 crore for other industries, with an interest rate of 8.25 percent.
The public health sector has been allocated Rs 23, 220 crores. These monies will be used to prepare for short-term emergencies, with a focus on children and paediatric care/beds.
As per PTI, citing sources, a high-level group led by the cabinet secretary recently met to discuss different regulatory and administrative concerns related to bank privatisation.
Last year, the government merged ten public sector banks into four, bringing the overall number of PSBs down to 12 from 27 in March 2017.
