Tottenham has hired Nuno Espirito Santo, the former Wolves manager, as their new head coach on a two-year contract, putting an end to the club's extended hunt for Jose Mourinho's replacement. Since the completion of the Premier League season, the Spurs have held conversations with Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Paulo Fonseca, Gennaro Gattuso, and Julen Lopetegui.
Nuno departed Wolves after four seasons, during which they were promoted to the Premier League after a six-year hiatus in 2018 and remained in the top level for three seasons. He has also managed Valencia and Porto in the past.
"We want to make the supporters pleased and enjoy ourselves when we have a squad with quality and potential," he stated in a statement on the club's website.
"It's a great honour and pleasure to be here; there's delight, and I'm happy and looking forward to getting started. We don't have any time to waste, and we need to get to work right away because pre-season begins in a few days."
Tottenham placed seventh in the Premier League in May, thus its European participation will be in the less lucrative and new third-tier Europa Conference League next season.
Following Mourinho's dismissal in April, Ryan Mason was appointed as interim manager of the London club until the end of the season.
Nuno's appointment follows Tottenham's recent selection of Fabio Paratici as their new director of football. For 11 years, the 48-year-old was the chief football officer at Juventus.
"First and foremost, I'd want to extend a warm greeting to Nuno. "We'd like to express our gratitude to our fans for their patience throughout this process," Levy stated.
"I've already mentioned the importance of returning to our fundamental DNA of attacking, attractive football.
"I feel Nuno is the man who can take our brilliant set of players, welcome our young players coming through, and develop something extraordinary," Fabio said. On August 15, Tottenham will kick off their new league campaign at home against Manchester City, the current champions.
