Smartphone brand OnePlus announced that they will merge OxygenOS with OPPO's operating system ColorOS.
The announcement came as the two brands prepare to integrate their businesses. As per a memo leaked recently, it is believed that OPPO will have OnePlus as a sub-brand.
Oxygen OS that was created by OnePlus six years ago has since evinced as one of the best Android operating systems that are presently available on the world market. It continues to be the OS for OnePlus users across the globe, although it is now erected on a sturdier, more stable platform.
The company said in a statement released on Friday, “After a lot of evaluation and discussion, we've come up with a solid plan to best leverage our shared resources with OPPO.”
It also said, “In order to improve efficiency and standardize the software experience across our portfolio, we're working on integrating the code base of OxygenOS and ColorOS.”
They added, “This will apply to new devices in the future, while for existing devices that are still within the maintenance schedule, it will occur via an OTA update along with Android 12.”
With a revamped team that is larger with more capable developers, OnePlus has assured its users to expect more advanced R&D resources with a more streamlined development process, which will all come together and give users a better and improved OxygenOS experience.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in an official note said the merge with ColorOS will lend them an opportunity to become more efficient which in turn will allow OnePlus users to experience better, faster, and more stable software updates. He said, last year he had assumed an additional role wherein he was overseeing product strategy for both companies.
“I am confident that this change will be positive for our community and our users. With this deeper integration with OPPO, we will have more resources at hand to create even better products for you,” said Lau.
He added that the OnePlus brand will go on operating in its independent capacity and will also focus on churning out the best possible products and experiences for its clients as has always been their core objective.
