After a successful IPL season in the United Arab Emirates in 2020, the BCCI decided to bring the league back to India in 2021. The league was supposed to take place in six cities, each with two venues. When the event began, everything appeared to be well-managed and secure.
However, as the number of cases in India increased as a result of the second COVID-19 wave, it was only a matter of time before the virus made its way into the IPL biosphere. The BCCI did its best to keep the atmosphere safe, but bio-secure bubbles are never completely safe, and the virus can infiltrate from unexpected places.
Despite this, excellent news made the headlines a month later, following the BCCI's Special General Meeting. The BCCI has confirmed that the remaining matches of the IPL 2021 would be held in the UAE from September 19 to October 14 at three different venues.
It would be interesting to observe how the teams do as the matches continue in September, as the change of site is likely to impact the fortunes of several of the teams.
