How to enhance your Facebook account’s security

Prepare a shield against apps that steal your FB account details

Tuesday, 6th July 2021

Is your Facebook account safe enough? Well, certain apps might pose a threat to you. Recently, security analysts from the reputed IT security solutions firm, Dr. Web discovered few apps that are engaged in stealing the login credentials of FB users. These dangerous apps, as found out, have been downloaded as many as 5,856,010 times, and more.

However, Google was quick to drop these apps out of the Playstore but still, there are chances that your FB login details might have been leaked or compromised. So, what do you do? Here are few steps you may undertake to keep your FB account safe. Read on:

The first and foremost thing you must do is ‘change your Facebook password’. You must switch to a complicated and unique password which isn’t common with any other online account you have. Also, make sure your new password doesn’t match in any way with your existing Facebook account password.

Steps to change FB password:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Select login and security option
  3. You’ll find a ‘change password’ tab under the login section. Click on that.
  4. Next, enter your existing FB password as well as your new FB password and then click on the ‘Save Changes’ tab.

The next step towards enhancing your FB account’s security is by logging out on all the devices you are logged into. How to log out?

Follow the steps:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Select login and security option
  3. Under the ‘login section’, you’ll find a button that reads ‘Show More’
  4. Next click on ‘logout’ of all the sessions.

You must remove all the authorized logins by enabling the two-factor authentication system. 2FA; i.e. the 2-Factor authentication enhances your account’s security by adding an extra layer of protection.

Follow these steps to enable the 2FA:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Opt for login and security
  3. Click on 2-Factor authentication
  4. Opt for the suitable 2-factor
  5. Finish the set-up

You must enable the login alerts. That’ll let you receive notifications about every new login. To make use of this feature you must head to the settings. Opt for ‘get alerts’.

For logging into Third-party services abstain from using your original FB credentials…rather, make use of randomly generated passwords for the same. To avail of the password generation feature you must first go to settings, then opt for login and security, and next for App Passwords.
