During the 20-day break, one of the 23 Indian cricketers on the current tour of England tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be travelling with the squad to Durham on Thursday. The announcement follows BCCI secretary Jay Shah's recent e-mail to the Indian contingent in the United Kingdom, in which he warned them about the escalating incidents of COVID-19. The team will reconvene in a bio-bubble in Durham ahead of the England Test series next month.
"Yes, one of the players has tested positive, despite the fact that he is currently asymptomatic. He'll miss the team's trip to Durham on Thursday since he's in quarantine at a friend's house "On condition of anonymity, a BCCI source told PTI.
While the touring party in the UK has remained tight-lipped about the player's identity, it is believed that he has been infected with the Delta strain, which has resulted in an increase in the number of cases in the country.
In his letter, Shah advised the players to "avoid" crowded areas because Covishield only provides protection against the infection, not complete immunity.
In reality, Shah's letter clearly said that players should not attend the recent Wimbledon and Euro Championships in London.
Starting August 4, the Indian squad will play England in a five-match Test series.
