Tuesday, 20th July 2021
Both Houses of the Parliament had to be adjourned for the day today following a series of disruptive interventions by several leaders of the Opposition who trooped in raising slogans and objections to a number of different issues. The relentless protests even caused the Prime Minister to stop midway while introducing his newly induced Union ministers bringing day one of the monsoon session of the Parliament to a grinding halt.
The Prime Minister in his signature style, at the beginning of the session, asked the Opposition to bring forth their tough questions but to also allow the government an opportunity to answer them.
PM Modi took offence at the Opposition’s continued slogan shouting against price hike and farmer protests and said, “Perhaps some people are not happy if country's women, OBCs, farmers' sons become Ministers. That is why they don't even allow their introduction.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also condemned this brawl by the Opposition and said this was a first of its kind in his 24 years’ of career in the parliament. He criticized this breach of decorum and called it a “sad, unfortunate and an unhealthy approach.”
Piyush Goyal also commented on the matter calling it an “unfortunate situation” wherein proceedings at both the Houses were disrupted. In the Rajya Sabha too, the Chairman’s speech was interrupted.
Outside the Parliament house, the PM addressed the press where he stated that discussing the Covid-19 situation is of utmost priority now in the house, also adding that those who take the vaccine shot become “Baahubali” in the process.
A controversial situation came up yesterday when it was divulged that telephone numbers of several ministers in India along with opposition leaders and even some journalists have been discovered on a database of targets for hacking that used an Israeli spyware that is only accessible by governments, known as ‘Pegasus’.
Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said about the matter, “Our national security is under threat. I will definitely raise this issue (in the house).”
The TMC has taken upon itself to raise the issues of petrol price hike, calling off the farm laws, vaccination solution, among several others and have submitted six notices in both the Houses.
PM Modi, during an all-party meeting yesterday stressed that as long as discussions are constructive and positive, his government is prepared to debate on any subject in accordance to the house rules.
