After a promising start at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, India had a disheartening third day. From Hockey to Archery, there were some very disappointing performances displayed by a few of the big names in their respective fields who could not take off in Tokyo.

Some of the highlights of the day were Sharath Kamal’s victory in his second round match against Portugal, advancing him to the third round and Bhavani Devi who gave a tough challenge in the fencing event bagging a win in the first round but got eliminated in the round of 32 stages.

Olympics debutante Bhavani Devi was defeated by Manon Brunet in her second match at the Games although she gave a tough fight and made India proud by being the country’s first contestant to enter the event.

In the Archery event, the Indian Men’s Archery Team comprising of Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav, and Tarundeep Rai, displayed a disappointing show and got knocked out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after falling to win against South Korea in the quarter-finals of the men's team event.

In Shooting too, India faced dismay as Indian shooters Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Mairaj Khan finished 18th (Score 120) and 25th (Score 117) respectively in the Men's skeet event in shooting, failing to advance in further rounds. India has not managed to get a medal in any of the shooting events until now.

It was a disappointing outing for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team as well as they got defeated against Netherlands in the group stage and then lost against Germany by 0-2 in their second match of the day.

Indian Swimmer Sajan Prakash could not qualify for the Semifinals of the Men's 200m Butterfly event after finishing fourth in Heat 2 of the Men's 200m Butterfly event at the Tokyo Olympics. Sajan finished the race in 01:57.22 minutes.

At the Men's Middle (69-75kg) - Preliminaries - Round of 32 in the Boxing event, Ashish Kumar Chaudhary was knocked out and his ambition for an Olympic medal further shattered when he lost against Touheta Erbieke of China in a unanimous decision.

In Badminton, Indian badminton duo, Satwik and Chirag lost against the Indonesian duo, 21-13, 21-12. The Indian duo will face Ben Lane & Sean Vendy in the next day’s match.
