Pravin Jadhav of India defeated Galsan Bazarzhapov of Russia in the Round of 32 of men's archery to advance to the last 16. Earlier today, Indian archer Tarundeep Rai was eliminated in the men's individual Round of 16 by Israel's Itay Shanny, 6-5. PV Sindhu, India's medal contender and 2016 Rio silver medalist, won 2-0 against Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi in a Group J badminton match to advance to the women's singles Round of 16. The Indian women's hockey team lost 1-4 to Great Britain in a Pool A match. After finishing sixth and last in the second semifinal, Indian rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh failed to qualify for the men's lightweight double sculls final at the Tokyo Olympics. After four races, the Indian sailing team of Varun Thakkar and KC Ganapathy was ranked 18th. Pooja Rani, an Indian boxer, will also compete today.
Daniil Medvedev of Russia defeated Fabio Fognini of Italy in three gruelling sets in the third round of the men's singles tennis tournament. World number one Novak Djokovic will also compete in the third round of men's singles, while Ma Long will compete in the table tennis men's singles quarterfinals today.
