Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19, delaying the second T20 International between India and Sri Lanka, which was planned for today in Colombo. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the news on Twitter. The BCCI further stated that the entire Indian contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests in order to rule out any subsequent outbreaks. As planned, the third T20I will be played on July 29.
Eight members of the Indian contingent have been recognised as close contacts by the medical staff.
"Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive in the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted prior of the match on Tuesday morning. Eight people have been identified as close contacts by the medical teams "In a press release, the BCCI stated.
The BCCI stated, "Today, the entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests to determine any further outbreak in the squad."
In Colombo, India and Sri Lanka are playing a three-match T20I series, with the visitors leading 1-0. Due of the COVID-19 pandemic, all of the matches are being played behind closed doors at the R Premadasa Stadium. Earlier in the three-match One-Day International series, India had defeated the hosts 2-1.
