Day 10 of Tokyo Olympics saw India’s Kamalpreet Kaur finishing sixth in the final of the women’s discus throw event. While America’s Valarie Allman took gold with a throw of 68.98m, Kamalpreet managed a best throw of 63.70m.

This still remains the best any Indian track and field athlete could achieve in the event since Anju Bobby George who finished 5th in Athens.

Germany's Kristin Pudenz won the silver medal and Cuba's Yaime Perez claimed the bronze medal.

Earlier on Monday, India had a bleak start as Indian sprinter Dutee Chand did not manage to qualify for the women's 200m semi-finals having finished in the last place in her heat. This was in spite of her recording her season’s best timing.

However, the women's hockey team more than made up for the country’s disheartening spell in Tokyo. They registered a historic 1-0 win over Australia in the quarterfinals and made their way into the semi-finals. This is the first time in the history of women’s hockey of the Olympics, that an Indian team has made it to the semi-final.

In the second quarter of the match, India took the lead through Gurjit Kaur and displayed amazing defensive might that kept the Australian side at an arm’s length.

Equestrian star Fouaad Mirza made it to the Eventing Jumping Individual final however, finished 23rd in the final failing to win a medal.

Shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sanjeev Rajput also failed to qualify for Men's 50m Rifle Positions 3 final.
