The first Test match between India and England, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham had a brilliant first day for the Indian side as they displayed some scintillating bowling performance taking the English batsmen out for 183 runs.

After England’s dismissal from the crease, Indian opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and K L Rahul gave their team a solid start to the innings.

Although, it is believed by that beating England on their home ground may be a tough job especially since India has been grappling to come up with an opener who can lend stability and a pace-bowling all-rounder who can provide balance to the team’s equation, the Indian side has been spending considerable time in the country to get the acclimatized with the local conditions.

On Wednesday’s match however, Indian bowlers showed displayed stellar form as Bumrah took four wickets, while Mohammed Shami struck thrice.

The critical wicket of the English captain and top scorer Joe Root was picked up by Shardul Thakur who also dismissed Dan Lawrence in the same over initiating the crumble in the opposite team’s batting performance.

Shardul got Root out while he was in the midst of a fine innings having put up 64 runs on the board. The subsequent wickets started collapsing quickly although some crucial runs were also added especially by Sam Curran who hit a quick unbeaten 27 off 37.

The only other batsmen who made a contribution of any significance were Jonny Bairstow (29) and Zak Crawley (27).

Earlier in the day, England had won the toss and captain Root opted to bat against India. KL Rahul was brought into the India side in place of Shubman Gill who has sustained an injury along with Mayank Agarwal who has also suffered a concussion only days before the match.

India has decided to retain only one spinner, Ravindra Jadeja as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ishant Sharma could not make it.
