Several states/UTs have let schools and colleges to resume for offline lessons as India's Covid-19 situation has improved and the vaccination effort has picked up. For the past three weeks, India's daily cases have been hovering around 40,000. However, several areas in the northeast and Kerala have seen an increase in Coronavirus infection, though data from last week suggests that the number of cases in these places is also plateauing.
According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday, India reported 28,204 new Coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the lowest number in 147 days (since March 16), bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections to 3,19,98,158. The number of deaths per day attributable to Covid-19 problems has similarly decreased to under 400. India's Covid-19 death toll has risen to 4,28,682, according to the health ministry, with 373 deaths in the last 24 hours. The country's active Covid-19 cases also fell to 3,88,508, the lowest level in 139 days. The national Covid-19 recovery rate has also improved to 97.45%, the best recovery rate ever recorded, according to the health ministry.

Several states/UTs have declared the reopening of schools for offline lessons as the Covid situation stays under control. On Monday, Delhi's schools reopened for levels X to XII. The Maharashtra government has also declared the reopening of physical education classes in both rural and urban schools beginning August 17; Uttar Pradesh has scheduled the reopening of intermediate schools from August 16. After a three-month hiatus, the Odisha government reopened schools for pupils in grades 10 through 12 on July 26. Meghalaya, a state in northeastern India, is likewise planning to reopen educational institutions after mid-August. Karnataka has stated that offline sessions would resume for students in grades 9-10 and pre-university level students on August 23.
Many countries are still having problems with the Delta variation on a global scale. In China's most recent epidemic of Covid-19, additional infections were recorded yesterday. In order to reduce locally transmitted illnesses, many Chinese localities have added rounds of mass testing. Since July 20, the highly infectious Delta strain has been found in more than a dozen Chinese locations.
Local governments have been asked to keep strict track on illnesses and eliminate loopholes in control measures, according to officials. Covi-19 incidences and hospitalizations are also at an all-time high in the United States, thanks to the Delta variant's rapid transmission and low vaccination rates. According to official health data, daily instances have averaged over 100,000 for the preceding three days, up 35% from the previous week.
