Team India head coach, Ravi Shatri may call it quits after his contract comes to an end after the T20 World Cup slated later this year.

It has also been reported that apart from Shastri, others in the support staff of the Indian cricket team, including bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and batting coach Vikram Rathour are all set to get replaced after the event that is scheduled to commence on October 17.

The 59-year old Shastri had taken on the role as coach of Team India back in 2017 when he replaced Anil Kumble after the country’s disastrous performance against Pakistan in the finale of Champion’s Trophy.

According to the BCCI, “Rahul Dravid could well reapply for the post but with Ravi Shastri's tenure ending in November 2021 after T20 WC, there is every possibility of Rahul being elevated to head coach's position. Bottom line, he remains very much a part of system.”

Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid, at present hold the position of Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He was appointed Head of Cricket in July 2019 after his extensive work with the junior players as India U-19 and A coach.

Recently, Dravid had accompanied the team to Sri Lanka as head coach to India’s limited overs squad as the Test side was in England playing some big matches.

At the end of the six-games series in Sri Lanka, Dravid was asked if he considered coaching India at the helm on a long term basis, but he remained evasive on the subject stating, “I haven't really thought anything far ahead, to be honest. I am enjoying doing what I am doing.”

Currently, the age limit that is set for the role of head coach is 60 years. With Shastri Already reaching 59 in May this year, Dravid may well be ready to fill in his shoes if India underperforms at the T20 World Cup.
