Kapil Sibal Slams the Congress Party After Sushmita Dev Exit

Senior party member KapilSibal took to social media to take a dig at the Congress party and its leadership after SushmitaDev, the face of Congress in Assam’s Barak Valley, gave in her resignation on Monday.

Sibal is a part of the G-23 group of leaders who are fighting for ground breaking changes in the organization which includes an alteration in leadership in the party. He was instigated to make a stinging observation on Twitter as party leader and former MP SushmitaDev quit from her post only to join Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

Sibal wrote in his Twitter post, “The party moves on with Eyes Wide Shut”.

He also rued the fact that even with the exit of such young people from the party, ‘oldies’ such as them are blamed for the efforts they put in to strengthen it.

He wrote, “The Party moves on with : Eyes Wide Shut.”

It has been reported that Sibal had recently hosted a dinner at his residence where several leaders of the opposition were invited. It is said that in the course of that dinner there were questions raised on the current situation of the Congress part and also its leadership.

SushmitaDev, the daughter of veteran leader Santosh Mohan Dev, and president of All India Mahila Congress, had tendered in her resignation from her post in a letter she wrote to the party chief Sonia Gandhi on Sunday (August 15). Hours later she joined the TMC. Dev had been associated with the party for over thirty years and soon after she stepped down, her social media bio was changed to “former” leader of the Congress.

Party spokesperson RandeepSurjewala refused to comment on the matter until he has had a word with Sushmita himself. He said, “I tried speaking with SushmitaDev, her phone was off. She was a dedicated Congress worker and perhaps is, even today. Congress president Sonia Gandhi has not received any letter from her. She's mature enough to take her decisions, can't comment until I speak with her.”
