‘General Amnesty’ announcement from Talibans…Get the details…
Wednesday, 18th August 2021
The Taliban announced a “general amnesty” on Tuesday for all government officials of Afghanistan urging them to return to work. This even includes women, according to them, as long as they correspond with the Sharia laws.
EnamullahSamangani, a member of Taliban’s cultural commission commented on the matter as he announced the amnesty and said, “You should restart your routine life with full confidence.” This happens to be the first comment on governance in Afghanistan ever since the Taliban took over the country.
Samangani also cleared that women too shall be allowed to join the government in line with the Sharia law and said, “They should be in government structure according to Shariah law.”
He added, “The structure of government is not fully clear, but based on experience, there should be a fully Islamic leadership and all sides should join.”
As far as other details are concerned, Samangani was reticent. He however, clearly implied that people of the country were well aware of Islamic law that the Taliban expected they would follow.
Other than stating that governance in the country would be based on Islamic “principles”, the Taliban has been vague on the details regarding how they plan to rule Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, a leading local news channel of the country, Tolo News telecasted a programme which had a female news anchor interviewing a member of the Taliban’s media team.
Residents of the nation however, have been seen reacting cautiously to the announcement and few women have been spotted on the streets. Educational institutions continue to remain closed and men have gone back to donning their traditional attire shedding their western gabs.
Recently, Afghans by the hundreds have been seen trying to flee the country in order to live a life free of the intransigent Islamist rule that is expected under the Taliban. These include several that had sided with the US-backed government that ruled the country for the past twenty years, and now expect a fate of doom as a result of the choice they made.
The United Nations Security Council has said on Monday that it is the duty of the international community to ensure that the country does not turn into a hot bet for terrorism.
