Footballer Tammy Abraham has made a permanent move having brought his long association with the Chelsea Football Club to a close, to join AS Roma on Tuesday.
The transfer is said to have been completed for a fee that is worth up to 40 million Euros.
The 23-year old forged his alliance with former Blues chief Jose Mourinhoe in the capital city of Italy and has signed a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
With his move, Abraham replaced Edin Dzeko who had shifted to Serie A champions Inter Milan last week.
Abraham said in his statement on the Serie A Club’s website, “You can sense when a club really wants you - and Roma made their interest clear immediately.”
He added, “Roma is a club that deserves to be fighting for titles and trophies. I’ve had the experience of winning major trophies and I want to be in those competitions again – so I want to help this team to achieve that and get to the level where Roma should be.”
He also said, “It’s a massive honour to be the No. 9 at the club and I just can’t wait to get started and to help the team.”
Abraham’s association with the Chelsea team goes back several years. Throughout his time with the club’s academy, he had proved to be a terrific goal scorer for them.
Abraham enjoyed many seasons as a senior player ever since at Bristol City and Aston Villa in the Championship. He had also had a stint at a campaign at Swansea City away from Stamford Bridge.
Abraham, who joined the Academy at the age of seven, was incorporated into the first team set up at Chelsea by Frank Lampard in the summer of 2019 and soon after, the academy graduate lived up to the faith entrusted in him by scoring 18 goals during the 2019-20 season.
Last term, he displayed exemplary performance by striking 12 goals. His play time however, was cut down to only 17 minutes in the final three months of his campaign majorly due to an ankle injury.
His long term association with Chelsea began to gain uncertainty with the club looking at signing another forward this summer especially after a 98 million pound deal was signed with Romelu Lukaku last week.
