With the arrival of Android 12, Google has announced that it will shut down its Android Auto for phone screens app.

The app titled ‘Android Auto for Phone Screens’ was launched two years ago when Google had to stall Google Assistant Driving Mode.

The tech giant will now be shifting users to the Google Assistant driving mode with the arrival of Android 12.

The Android Auto app of Google allows users to connect to their smartphones and administer their journey. It is however to be noted here that not all vehicles are equipped with support for the Android Auto.

The Android Auto phone screen app allows users to access Android Auto on their phone screens on any phone that runs on Android 10.

As per the description of the app on the App Store, “If you have Android 10 and an Android Auto compatible car, you can project to your car display without downloading this app. Simply plug in your phone to get started.”

The app allows users to course their next destination with the help of Google Maps or Waze along with real-time GPS navigation and traffic alerts. It also came packed with other modern features such as have Google Assistant check the users’ calendar, set reminders, get updates on the news as well as set custom do not disturb messages while driving, among others. Besides this, it lets users make calls, navigate, text, and play music.

Google has now confirmed in a statement that Android Auto for Phone Screens is being discontinued as Android 12 gets released. However, they cleared that it will continue to be available on older versions of the OS.

In a statement, Google is quoted to have said, “Google Assistant driving mode is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. For the people who use Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience isn’t going away.”

The firm added, “For those who use the on-phone experience (Android Automobile app), they will be transitioned to Google Assistant driving mode. Starting with Android 12, Google Assistant driving mode will be the built-in mobile driving experience. We have no further details to share at this time.”
