As he lamented missing the Diamond League tournament owing to a lack of preparation as a result of a "incessant amount of functions" he had to attend after returning from the Tokyo Olympics, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra said India as a country can't be pleased with only one gold medal. With a best attempt of 87.58 metres, Neeraj, India's first Olympic medalist in athletics, won the men's javelin throw final at the Tokyo Games. Upon his return to India, the athlete received widespread acclaim and multiple felicitation ceremonies, and as a result, his training "came to a full halt."

"Aisa nahin hona chahiye ki ab medal aa gaya toh sab abhi kar do, aur phir ek mahiney baad sab shaant ho jao," Neeraj said in an interview with The Times of India.
"Attention is crucial, but the Diamond League is coming up at the end of the month." I intended to participate, but due to the constant number of functions, my training came to a halt once I returned from the Olympic Games.
"This is why I don't feel like my fitness is up to par right now." I'm not up to the task. As a result, I will be unable to attend the event. I intended to participate in at least two-three events."
"These things need to change in Indian sport," Neeraj added. Diamond Leagues are open to all other Olympic champions. Their season is still going on.
"We can't be content with just one gold medal." We must consider the big picture. We must consistently perform at international competitions such as the Diamond Leagues."
