The immunisation campaign against Covid-19 has picked up steam ahead of a likely third wave in the country. According to preliminary figures, India gave out almost 1.25 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday, the most ever in a single day. This is the country's second time in five days that it has surpassed the one-million immunisation mark. India's cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage also surpassed 65 crore with the record inoculation. The first dose was given to as many as 50 crore people. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, praised the entire country for administering more than 1 crore tablets for the second day in a five-day period. In August, India delivered a total of 18.12 crore doses, up from 13.45 crore in July. Vaccination rates have also risen to 58.46 lakh per day, up from 43.41 lakh in July.
The Covid-19 vaccination was provided to 10 crore people in India in 85 days. It took 45 days to reach the 20-crore level, and another 29 days to reach the 30-crore mark. On August 6, the country took 24 days to reach 40 crore vaccines and another 20 days to attain 50 crore immunizations. According to data from the Union Health Ministry, it took 19 more days to surpass the 60-crore mark on August 25.
Several states/UTs, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Jammu & Kashmir, have enabled educational institutes to reopen as the Covid-19 situation improves in the country. Delhi's schools and colleges will reopen today.
However, there is still an increase tendency in the number of Coronavirus infections in several states. Kerala has been a major source of concern. For the past two weeks, the southern state has reported more than half of India's Covid-19 cases. To combat the spread of Covid, Kerala has reinstated a night curfew and Sunday lockdown. In addition, visitors from countries having C.1.2 Covid-19 variant cases will be screened by the state administration. The variation, which was first discovered in the United Kingdom, is now rapidly spreading throughout the world. With festival season approaching and state/UT governments authorising an increasing number of activities, any lapse in the Covid protocol may make it difficult to detect Coronavirus infections.
According to data released by the Union health ministry on Wednesday, India reported 41,965 new Coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections to 3,28,10,845, while active cases jumped to 3,78,181. With 460 more deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has risen to 4,39,020. The number of active cases in India has risen to 3,78,181, accounting for 1.15 percent of the country's overall infections, according to the ministry. In just 24 hours, the number of active cases has risen by 7,541.
