India's daily Covid numbers increased by 12% today, with 47,092 new infections reported, the highest single-day increase in two months. According to the Health Ministry, 509 deaths have occurred in the last 24 hours.

Kerala was responsible for 32,803 new cases and a third of all deaths, accounting for over 70% of all new cases and a third of all deaths. The overall number of people infected with the virus in the state today stands at 40,90,036. According to a state government release, the test positivity rate was 18.76 percent, with 173 deaths bringing the total number of fatalities to 20,961.

According to NDTV, the Health Ministry has emphasised a "wise and planned lockdown" to stem the daily spike, with over 85% of Covid patients in the southern state confined at home. Officials argued that Kerala has not been following the Centre's guidance, despite the fact that the state has the highest daily case count in the country, and that neighbouring states are feeling the effects.

In a college in Karnataka, 32 students, all of whom are returnees from Kerala, have tested positive for COVID-19, according to state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar. As of present, there are 18,386 active cases in the state.

Maharashtra's Covid tally increased by 4,456, bringing it to 64,69,332. In the last 24 hours, the state has reported 183 virus-related deaths.

In Gujarat, schools for grades 6 to 8 resumed today with a 50% capacity. Despite the fact that schools in the state have been given permission to restart classes on their campuses, the continuous system of online instruction for these programmes will continue. In the state, over 32 lakh kids are enrolled in classes 6 to 8.

In the previous 24 hours, Delhi has recorded 36 additional cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the national capital to 343. According to official data, the number of active cases in the city has dropped to 0.23 percent, the lowest level since the outbreak began.

According to the Union Health Ministry, active cases account for 1.19 percent of total cases, with a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.48 percent. The daily positive rate has now reached 2.80%.

COVID-19 vaccination coverage in India has surpassed 66 crore people, with at least one dose received by 54 percent of adults and the needed two doses received by 16 percent. In the previous 24 hours, more than 81 lakh vaccination doses had been provided.

The World Health Organization has said that it is keeping an eye on a novel coronavirus type known as "Mu," which was discovered in Colombia in January. Mu, also known as B.1.621, has been recognised as a "variant of interest" by the World Health

The number of cases of Coronavirus has topped 200 million worldwide. Cases are increasing in around a third of the world's countries, many of which have yet to deliver the first dose to half of their population.
