Kerala Continues to Bear Maximum share of New Covid-19 Cases in India With More than 30,000 Infections

Caseload on the rise in Kerala

India logged 45,352 cases of coronavirus in 24 hours pushing the country’s cumulative figures to 32,903,289. The number of new deaths due to Covid-19 recorded was 366 with which the death toll reached 439,895, as per data released on Friday by the Union Ministry of health and family welfare.

Friday’s figures were slightly lower than the number of fresh Covid-19 cases that were reported a day earlier on Thursday of 47,092 infections.

The southern state of Kerala continued to account for the maximum caseload of new cases as they alone recorded 32,097 cases of the total tally of 45,352 infections along with 188 fatalities in 24 hours. The state has been reporting over 30,000 new cases every day for a while now. With Friday’s count, Kerala’s total figure now stands at 41,22,133 and death toll is now at 21,149.

The new cases of Covid-19 that have been reported in Kerala includes 98 health workers and 102 people from outside the state. The remaining 30,456 have been infected through contact, however, the source of the contact has not yet been determined in 1,441 cases.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases in India went up by 10,195 and now stands at 399,778 as per data released by the health ministry at 8am. The active cases account for 1.19 per cent of total cases and the national Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 97.48 per cent.

On Friday, the number of tests for Covid-19 that were conducted was 16,66,334 which makes the total number of tests conducted in the country so far as 52,65,35,068. While total number of people who have battled the illness and have recovered from have shot up to 32,053,616, the case fatality rate now stands at 1.34 per cent.

As the country’s Covid-19 vaccination drive moves ahead avidly with availability of more vaccines, advanced visibility of vaccine availability to states and Union territories to help then better plan and streamlining the vaccine supply chain, the ministry of health stated on Friday that more than 650 million doses have been supplied by the Centre to states and union territories free of charge.

It also said, “Twelve million doses are in the pipeline. Around 43.6 million balance doses are still available with the states/union territories.”
