Dip in everyday covid cases…fatalities spike

Tuesday, 7th September 2021

While India saw a drop in the number of daily coronavirus cases on Tuesday with 31,222 new infections, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 on a single day spiked. According to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health, the number of people who died due to the illness in India in the span of a single day was 290.

As per the health bulletin, the total active cases in the country have fallen below the crucial 4-lakh mark with the country currently registering 3,92,864 active cases.

As more people are recovering from the Covid-19 infection as compared with the total number of people getting infected by it, the recovery rate is at 97.48 per cent presently. The health ministry stated that the number of people who recovered from the infection and were discharged from hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours was 42,942.

After September 6 when nearly 1 crore vaccine doses were administered on people across the nation, there are still over 5 crore doses available with the states as per information by the health ministry. Another batch of almost 80 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses have been dispatched to various states and union territories across the country.

There has been a steady rise in the number of tests done for Covid-19 in the country per day. Data by the ICMR states there were 15,26,056 tests done on Monday, an increase by over 1 lakh tests.

Meanwhile, the southern state of Kerala continues to account for more than 50 per cent of the total case load of Covid-19 infections in India. Maharashtra is also reporting a steady surge in the number of daily cases. Together, the two states account for nearly 80 per cent of India’s total Covid-19 cases.

There are varied opinions on the rise in the number of cases. While some opine that this is because the number of testing has gone up, others believe it is the third wave of the pandemic.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has issued caution to the political parties against organizing events that involve large public gatherings. With their capital city Mumbai being back in the top 5 list of the state’s Covid tally, it is yet to see how they manage the situation, especially with the upcoming festivities.
