Latest updates of Corona Virus
Wednesday, 8th September 2021
On Wednesday, India saw a dramatic increase in new coronavirus infections in a single day, with the daily caseload reaching 37, 875. Kerala has reported about 25,000 infections out of the total. According to the health ministry's bulletin, there has also been an increase in Covid deaths. According to government data, 369 persons died in India as a result of viral illness. The number of active cases in the country has decreased slightly. According to the bulletin, there are 3,91,256 active Covid-19 cases across the country. The national recovery rate has remained constant at 97.48%.
India has made significant progress in terms of daily vaccination. Over 10 crore vaccinations have been given out in the previous 13 days as part of the mass vaccination effort. In terms of numbers, this is possibly the world's largest vaccination total. However, when expressed as a percentage, the population covered is still only 17%. This is only the beginning for India's massive billion-strong population.
What is India's current state of preparedness in the event of a third wave of the new coronavirus? According to a recent Reuters study, two major variables are needed: a) a complete reform of the health system, and b) a high degree of immunity gained through vaccination and natural illnesses. When it comes to the country's health infrastructure, efforts are being undertaken to improve hospital bed availability and medical oxygen supply. In Delhi, hospitals like Sir Ganga Ram are attempting to establish their own medical oxygen supply. Other hospitals and health centres are being encouraged to follow suit. While the Centre has stated that child care should receive special attention, the recent dengue outbreak in Uttar Pradesh and insufficient rural health infrastructure expose the state governments' assertions.
Let's have a look at the immunity factor now. In India, 17% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated as of today. When it comes to the first dose, the percentage is 57 percent. The situation in India appears to be improving, with a high vaccination rate and a lower incidence of new Covid-19 strains. Dr. Gagandeep Kang, a renowned virologist, has also stated that India may not suffer a fresh wave of coronavirus if the country does not witness any new modified coronavirus strains. This caution, however, must be understood.
It was around this time last year that scientists discovered what is now known as the Delta variation. With the forthcoming Christmas season and a lack of attention for Covid standards, India's recovery storey may be jeopardised.
