The Delhi Capitals announced on Monday that they have signed Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis to replace Chris Woakes in the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The Delhi Capitals have confirmed that English all-rounder Woakes has withdrawn from the tournament for personal reasons. "JSW-GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals today announced that English all-rounder Chris Woakes, who picked up 5 wickets in 3 matches in the first half of the IPL 2021, has withdrawn from the tournament due to personal reasons," the team said in a statement.
"The Delhi Capitals have named Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Woakes' replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season," the team announced.
Dwarshuis has 100 wickets at an average of 23.73 in 82 T20 matches. With 85 wickets in 69 matches for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, the 27-year-old is the tournament's sixth-highest wicket-taker.
The 14th season, which was postponed in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume on September 19 in Dubai with a blockbuster match between the Chennai Super Kings and the defending champions, the Mumbai Indians.
The action will then shift to Abu Dhabi, where the Kolkata Knight Riders will face the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The first game will be held in Sharjah on September 24th, when Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Chennai Super Kings.
In total, 13 matches will take place in Dubai, ten in Sharjah, and eight in Abu Dhabi.
The board has issued a 46-page health advisory outlining all of the guidelines that everyone involved with the IPL must follow in order for the league to run smoothly.
