With the second leg of the Indian Premier League 2021 around the corner, the Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting expressed his thoughts about the team’s position in the tournament.

Ponting feels the DC team will have to start over when the league resumes on Sunday in the UAE and however top-notched its performance may have been in the first half, it will not count anymore.

The latest season of the IPL that had started earlier this year in May, had to be suspended midway due to a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases within the bio-bubble.

In a press release issued by the franchise, Ponting said, “It doesn't matter what we've done in the first half of the season. It's been four months since when we played some really good cricket, so we really have to start again.”

The former Australian superstar also said, “We have to build ourselves as we go along in the tournament and make sure that we are playing our best cricket at the back end of the tournament. Our performance in the first half of the tournament was because of how well we played and how hard we worked, but I don’t think we played our best cricket.”

As the fourteenth season of the IPL will resume on Sunday in Dubai, the Delhi Capitals team will be seen heading the points table having won six matches out of eight.

Ponting also said that the DC team has displayed enormous commitment toward the game ever since their arrival here for the pre-season camp.

He said, “I have been waiting for four months to come back to the Delhi Capitals camp. I have such a great time when I work with the team and it’s a great time in my calendar year. I have been keeping a close eye on what’s being happening here.” He added that he has been “speaking to the coaching staff” who have excelled in their show of intensity in the pre-season camp, making it a “really worthwhile camp” yet.

The team’s first match after the resumption will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 22.
