Once, an uncle called me home and thanked me for providing a disabled-friendly taxi service for his daughter (who turned out to be my former classmate). She collapsed and described the importance of our taxi to her. We cried together that night," said Sartaj Lamba, founder of Buddy Cabs and Besure Care.

Sartaj is located in Chandigarh and provides nursing care and assisted travel, a service widely used in the West.

Sartaj has everything from money and connections to the best medical facilities, but she has problems with travel assistance and the care of her father-in-law, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2015.

Between 2016 and 2018, he was completely bedridden, but he needed to go to the hospital frequently because he also had amnesia. He passed away in 2018, leaving a huge gap in the family.

 But this loss motivates Sartaj to provide more inclusive mobility and care services for the elderly and the disabled.

This is how Buddy Cabs and Besure Care were born.

"Be a poor woman, we have employees, but we are difficult to ensure that it is effective for my stimulus. I have built a model that not only provides transportation, but also provides services that a person may need before and after traveling," said Sartaj, who plays an active role in the Army Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA).

 How it works

 There are nearly 70 cars, 20 of which have been modified to meet Designed for the needs of the elderly and the disabled. Wheelchair accessible vehicles have rotating seats, oxygen cylinders, first aid, etc.

 Sartaj employs former soldiers as drivers and caregivers. They have received nursing training. Users can also use these two services in one of their options.

 An initiative stemming from personal loss is now bringing changes to the otherwise neglected communities of elderly and disabled people.
