England has cancelled their men's and women's tours to Pakistan, which were set to take place in October 2021. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news in a statement made on Monday, only days after New Zealand cancelled their limited-overs tour of Pakistan due to security concerns.
“Earlier this year, we agreed to play two more T20 World Cup warm-up games in Pakistan in October, as well as a brief women's trip with double headers alongside the men's games,” the ECB said in a statement.
“The ECB Board met over the weekend to discuss the extra England Women's and Men's games in Pakistan, and we can report that the Board has regretfully chosen to pull both teams out of the October tour.”
“We realise that the PCB will be disappointed by this decision, as they have worked relentlessly to bring international cricket back to their country. Over the last two summers, their support for English and Welsh cricket has been a wonderful show of friendship. We are deeply regretful for the negative impact this will have on cricket in Pakistan, and we reiterate our commitment to our primary tour plans there in 2022,” the statement continued.
Ramiz Raja, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, expressed his disappointment with England, saying on Twitter that the English were "drawing out of their commitment & failing a member of their Cricket fraternity when it needed it the most."
Next month, the England men's and women's sides will play Twenty20 matches in Rawalpindi.
