Shreyas Iyer took over in the centre for Shaw, and he and Dhawan led DC to a 39/1 lead at the end of the powerplay. The two put up a good show and put on a crucial fifty-run stand in the 11th over.

However, Rashid Khan removed Dhawan for 42 in the same over when Abdul Samad made a brilliant catch in the deep.

Pant and Iyer then teamed up to make sure DC didn't stop charging. DC was bowled out with 2.1 overs to spare after the two put on an unbroken 67-run stand. Pant smashed a quickfire 35* off 21 balls, while Iyer scored 47*.

Earlier, after deciding to bat, SRH lost David Warner to Anrich Nortje in the first over. While Wriddhiman Saha and Williamson combined for 29 runs, DC struck again in the fifth over when Kagiso Rabada bowled the SRH wicketkeeper for 18.

After Saha's collapse, Manish Pandey joined Williamson in the midfield. Before Williamson got two reprieves – one each from Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw – the pair kept the scoreboard ticking and brought SRH past fifty.

But it didn't cost DC much time as Shimron Hetmyer held on to a catch in the deep off Axar Patel, and the SRH skipper was out soon after. Rabada then took Pandey's wicket in the 11th over for his second wicket of the match.

The next man out was Kedar Jadhav, who was caught before the wickets by Nortje for his second wicket of the night. As Axar got the better of Jason Holder, DC continued to chip away.

After SRH passed 110, Rashid and Samad put up a crucial 25-run stand until Rabada bowled Samad after the right-hander scored a crucial 28. Rashid, on the other hand, fought back and scored 22 runs before being run-out for 22 in the penultimate over.

Sunrisers Hyderabad 134/9 (Abdul Samad 28, Rashid Khan 22; Kagiso Rabada 3/37) were defeated by Delhi Capitals 139/2 (Shreyas Iyer 47*, Shikhar Dhawan 42; Rashid Khan 1/26) by eight wickets.
