Kolkata Knight Riders beat defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets on Thursday, thanks to half-centuries from Rahul Tripathi and Venkatesh Iyer.
With a target of 156 to chase, KKR put up a strong batting performance, with Tripathi (74 not out off 42 balls) and Iyer (53 off 30 balls) putting on 88 runs for the second wicket to get the team home in 15.1 overs. For MI, Jasprit Bumrah took all three wickets, conceding 43 runs in his four overs.
The Mumbai Indians (MI) batted first and scored 155/6. The reigning champions got off to a flying start, with Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock each scoring 33 and 55 runs. However, when they were dismissed, the KKR spinners suffocated the MI batsmen, allowing only 75 runs to be scored in the final 10 overs. Lockie Ferguson had a particularly strong outing, finishing with 2/27.
