Due to increased vaccination rates across the country and a decrease in new cases in Kerala, India has seen a steady fall in daily Coronavirus infections ahead of the primary festive season. According to data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 1.56 lakh new Coronavirus infections last week, a nearly 22% decrease from the previous week and the greatest drop since mid-June. For the first time in over seven months, the country reported fewer than 2 lakh new Covid-19 cases last week.
For the previous two days, new cases have been hovering around 20,000-25,000. According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Monday, India saw less than 30,000 new Covid-19 cases for the ninth day in a row, while active cases fell to 2,64,458, the lowest level in 200 days. With the new instances, India's total number of Covid cases has risen to 3,38,34,702, while the death toll has risen to 4,48,997, with 180 new fatalities, according to the Health Ministry.
Kerala, which has contributed more than 60% of India's Covid-19 cases in recent weeks, and Mizoram, which is seeing a steep increase in daily Covid-19 cases, have issued further Covid-19 limitations, permitting more activities ahead of the festive season. The Union Health Ministry, state governments, and specialists have cautioned people not to relax their guard and to follow proper Covid-protocols, such as wearing masks, keeping a safe distance from others, and keeping the celebrations to a minimum, in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus illnesses.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 vaccine campaign is gaining traction across the country. The Covid-19 vaccine has been provided to 90.79 crore people in India so far. The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) chief announced that the implementation of Zydus Cadila's Covid-19 vaccine will likely take two more weeks, adding to India's immunisation effort.
