Shubman Gill displayed stellar batting performance in Sunday’s IPL match in Dubai against Sunrisers Hyderabad and guided the Kolkata Knight Riders to a six wicket victory.

With this win, KKR bounced back into the race of qualifying teams for this season of the tournament. The team produced great performance both with the bat and the ball allowing the opponents to put up a meagre target of 116 runs on the board.

Some solid hits by Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana glided the team to victory in the 20th over registering the sixth win for the team this season. With this, KKR also managed to wedge a 2-point gap with the other IPL teams of Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, all of whom are tied on 10 points.

Although, KKR started off on a difficult note with the wickets of Venkatesh Iyer (8) and Rahul Tripathi (7) falling in quick succession, the team managed to hold ground soon after with a strong partnership that got forged between Gill and Rana.

By the tenth over, the team’s run rate had dipped to 4.40 and even Gill and Rana seemed to be struggling to find the gaps. They however, soon started taking some risks and in the 12th over bowled by Jason Holder, Gill scored 12 runs and got his team back on track.

Some back on back boundaries after that brought matters under control after that and made the chasing much easier.

When Gill got out at 57 off 51 balls and Rana also followed having scored 25 off 33 balls, things seemed to get a little grim for KKR. The side still needed 10 runs off 12 balls when Dinesh Karthik (18 not out) used his experience and expertise to get the team back into the chase. He smashed the remainder runs with 2 balls to spare.

The Surisers Hyderabad had earlier managed to score a paltry 115 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs after winning the toss and captain Kane Williamson opting to bat first.

The top scorer in their inning was the skipper himself with 26 runs followed by Abdul Samad who made 25 runs. Each of the KKR bowlers, Tim Southee, Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets while Shakib Al Hasan got one.

After Sunday’s triumph, KKR managed to find a place in the fourth position on the points table.
