Using clarified butter or ghee in diet is a debate-able topic and there’s a divided opinion on this all the time. While some people will use ghee in every food they eat, some others will simply drop ghee out of their diet, thinking that its unhealthy and fattening. However, using ghee in the right quantity is the main trick. You have to use in a quantity that’s healthy. Also, you need to make sure that you don’t overpower your food with ghee. It should just be a taste-enhancing element.

 Rujuta Diwekar, celebrity nutritionist, talks on Instagram about how much of ghee one could add to the meals.“Based on what is it that we are eating, we need to add proportional amount of ghee,” says Diwekar in the video.

Talking about the proportion, she states, “For a millet like nachni or ragi, you will need to add a little more ghee compared to what you would add on dal and rice,”

So how much of ghee would actually be too much?

To this Diwekar says that the quantity of ghee you use should enhance the flavor of your food but it shouldn’t mask the food’s actual flavor.

In the past too, Diwekar had talked on the topic of ghee consumption.

“It depends on what you are eating, and this info is part of our collective food wisdom. Foods like dal-rice, khichdi, roti-sabzi will require lesser ghee compared to puran poli, dal baati, bajra roti, etc. Ask your grandmother if you have any confusion,” she stated.

As Ghee contains lots of vital vitamins essential for enhancing the power of the immune system, it must be added to at least one meal per day.

“Ensure that you are getting around 3-6 tsp of ghee per day/per person. The key is that ghee should enhance the flavour of food and not mask it,” she noted while explaining that a 1 teaspoon ghee for breakfast, lunch and dinner is ideal.
