Consuming Oatmeal is an important part of one’s weight loss regime. Whether it's your breakfast or a late-night dinner or snack, oatmeal can offer a guilt-free eating session. It puts off your hunger without letting you put on extra weight. But, Oatmeal also wears varied hats, from offering one with a slime breakfast to glucose spiking food.

 

Oatmeal is available in varied types and flavors. Plain oatmeal is steeped in proteins and fiber and has fewer calories only. As per a report from the Times of India, half a bowl of water mixed with dry oatmeal contains 150 calories, 27 grams carb, 3 grams of fat, 4 grams of fiber, 5 gram protein, and sugar up to 1 gram.

 

RDN of Hibiscusly Yours, Lonielle Freeman, in a discussion with Popsugar talks about the importance of the carbs present in Oatmeal. Oatmeal is fiber-rich and has fewer calories. It helps to satiate hunger quickly.

 

Oatmeal is fiber-rich

Oats have a very high fiber content. It consists of both soluble and insoluble fiber. Such type of fibers is helpful in promoting satiety, facilitating easy bowel movements, and stabilizing the blood sugar levels. The soluble fiber in Oats lowers LDL levels and boosts HDL levels. That leads to improved heart health. Oatmeal also has a pretty low glycemic index and is thus, good for diabetics too. According to Freeman, the least processed variety of Oatmeal is the best for health when compared to the more processed versions. The various categories of oats include Oats Groats, Steel-cut Oats, Rolled Oats, and Quick cooking Oats. Quick-cooking Oats is the most processed while Oats Groats is the least processed and hence the healthiest.

 

Oatmeal is protein-rich

Oatmeal, like the other whole grains, provides about 5 grams of protein. To make the oatmeal even more delicious, other healthy additives like flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp, nuts, nut butter, yogurt, and other such ingredients may be added to it. Essential proteins present in Oatmeal keep blood sugar under control and boost energy levels while at the same time improving mental health. Both are needed for weight reduction purposes.

 

Oatmeal has weight-loss inducing carbs

As already stated, oatmeal is high in carbs. It supplies energy to the body. However as observed previously by Freeman, oatmeal consists of complex carbohydrates which are processed in a different manner from soluble fiber. Complex carbs in Oats satiate hunger and that keeps your stomach full for a longer time span. If you add fruits to Oats, you can make it healthier, as the fiber content of Oats increases with the addition of fruits and thus, it can keep you full until your lunchtime and can keep unhealthy snacking at bay.
