India logged 18,346 cases in 24 hours, the lowest it has recorded in over six months. Kerala continues to bear the maximum caseload

India recorded on Tuesday, the lowest daily cases of Covid-19 in the last six months with 18,346 fresh cases. As per data released by the Union Health Ministry, the total figure in the country now stands at 33,697,581. The number of active cases have also slipped to 2,92,206 as per the data.
The total number of fatalities rose to 4,47,373 in the past 24 hours with 179 new deaths. While the national recovery rate has been recorded at 97.78 per cent, active cases is 0.89 per cent of the total infections, as per the ministry.
Within the last 24 hours the country has logged a decrease in the number of active Covid-19 cases by 7,414.
Meanwhile, Kerala continues to account for the maximum caseload of Covid-19 infections in India having recorded 11,699 fresh cases on Monday. The southern state registered 58 deaths due to the infection in 24 hours. With these figures, the total number of coronavirus cases in Kerala now stands at 46,41,614 and the death toll at 24,661.
Total number of recoveries reported from Kerala in the past 24 hours is 17,763 bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 44,59,193 and the number of active cases to 1,57,158.
On the vaccination front, over 54 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered until 7pm on October 5. As per the Union Health Ministry, with this the country’s total number of vaccinations have crossed 92 crore.
Meanwhile, with Durga Puja festivities around the corner, the government of West Bengal has announced its decision to call off the annual puja carnival. This is the second consecutive year that the state had cancelled the celebrations owing to the pandemic and have urged the people of the state to strictly abide by Covid-19 protocols.
In Lucknow also, in view of the upcoming festivals, several entrance exams and farmer agitation, the government has laid down measures to curb the spread of the virus. Moreover, to keep the law and order situation under control, the local police has imposed curbs under Section 144 of CrPC till November 8.
WHO is expected to meet next week to make a risk / benefit assessment and come to a final decision on whether Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin can be accorded an Emergency Use Listing.
