The number of daily Covid-19 cases in India, having kept below the 20,000 mark for a few days, spiked again on Thursday with the country recording 22,431 coronavirus positive cases in 24 hours. With this, the country’s cumulative figures rose to 3,38,94,312. There were 318 deaths due to the virus reported during this time period after which the death toll went up to 4,49,856, as per data from the health ministry.

The daily count of new cases has been below the 30,000 mark for 13 days in a row now and the active cases is also the lowest in 204 days with 2,44,198 cases.

The country’s efforts at vaccinating its population against the coronavirus has been continually picking up pace with the country administering over 92 crore doses of the vaccine so far. With this rate of progress, the total number of administered doses is soon expected to touch the 100-crore mark as states and UTs are already stocked with as many as 6.93 crore doses.

A recent survey also suggests that the number of people hesitating to take vaccine against the coronavirus, is at its lowest in the country currently, indicating that India’s fight against Covid-19 could get further reinforced in the coming days. As per reports from the study, only 7 per cent of the country’s adult population is hesitant in getting inoculated at the moment while 46 per cent of the unvaccinated populace, are mentally prepared and is soon expected to get their first doses.

While the daily count continues to be under the 30K mark for some time now, it is feared that if people let down their guard during the upcoming festive days, the figures may significantly take a turn for the worse and surge uncontrollably. Experts have cautioned that in such a scenario, the gain made by the country in its fight against the virus will be rendered useless.

The government has also warned against showing any laxity and urged people to continue following all Covid related protocols strictly. People have been asked to wear masks and not crowd during the festive celebrations and preclude any instance where the figures may spike again.

Certain individual states and union territories also have issued specific guidelines to be followed during the festive season in their respective areas.
