The Navratri festival is finally here. During the nine days, many people practice a fast. If you're also fasting and looking for healthy options that will keep you full and energized throughout the day, here are some great foods to help you out, recommended nutritionist Simran Khosla.
Khosla took to Instagram to share some nutritious foods that also help naturally slow down insulin secretions and keep hunger pangs at bay.
Kuttu atta
Kuttu atta or buckwheat flour is rich in fiber that detoxifies the body. Fiber also helps keep hunger pangs at bay and makes us less hungry when we fast. “You can also use singhare ka stta (water chestnut flour) and rajgira ka atta (amaranth flour). Instead of rice, you can eat samai ke chawal or samvat ke chwaal (millet in the garden), which can be used to make khichdi, dhoklas or kheer, ”Khosla said.
Sabudana or Sago
Has a cooling effect on the body and is easy to digest.
Makhana
Foxnut is a very popular fasting food. Loaded with antioxidants, it acts as an anti-aging food by preventing gray hair, wrinkles, and premature aging.
Dried fruits
During fasting, almonds, pistachios, cashews and kishmish (raisins) are eaten.
Fruits and Vegetables
Vegetables such as bottle gourd, potato, pumpkin, banana, arbi, potato colocasia, yam, sweet potato, lemon, honey, cucumber, raw banana, tomato, carrot, raw papaya and spinach are commonly consumed during Navratri.
Dairy products
Dairy products are considered sacred on a favorable occasion. Therefore, you can consume natural products such as milk, cottage cheese, paneer, butter, ghee, khoya, and condensed milk.
As spices you can use powdered black pepper, green cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, ajwain or caramel seeds, black peppercorns, dried pomegranate seeds, kokum, tamarind and nutmeg. “Some people also use fresh coriander leaves, red chili powder, dried mango powder, chaat masala (especially with fruit). Much depends on the beliefs and domestic traditions of the devotee, ”Khosla said.

Grain: Wheat, rice, oats, bread, semolina, chickpea flour, corn flour, millet flour such as ragi and pear are strictly prohibited during these nine days.
