In other news, the administration of a private autonomous college in Karnataka has postponed a decision to name one of its parks after Jesuit priest and tribal rights activist Father Stan Swamy, citing opposition from Hindu right-wing groups who threatened to stage a protest labelling Swamy a "Urban Naxal." The college has now requested more time to make a decision. The management of Mangaluru's St Aloysius College wished to name the park after Fr Swamy because of his work with tribals and the impoverished. In the aftermath of the threats, Rev Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions and Vice-President of the Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society, told The Indian Express that the plan to name the park after Swamy has been delayed and that a decision will be made after additional negotiations. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have been at the forefront of the opposition to the college administration.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl was killed in a pothole accident on Friday after being flung from a scooter on which she was travelling pillion in Kachohalli intersection, off Magadi road. The dead has been named as Nubia, a Goripalya resident who was travelling with two relatives who were injured. The incident occurs just one day after the Karnataka High Court ordered the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to patch potholes on city highways.
