Beware of fake messages on corona virus

Wednesday, 8th April 2020

Number of forwards on WhatsApp has been increasing day by day since the outbreak of corona virus. WhatsApp has set a limit on forward messages on Tuesday. This has been done in order to stop the spread of fake medical advices on Covid-19 pandemic.

With over 2 billion WhatsApp users, it will be highly risky to ignore the increasing fake messages as they can incite violent behavior of people and chaos during the crisis.

The statement was, “We believe it’s important to slow the spread of these messages down to keep WhatsApp a place for personal conversation". The number of individuals/groups that you can forward a message to is 5 and not more than that since last year.

Misleading information has been spreading in recent times about fake treatments for Corona infection. But it is not in the hands of authority to completely monitor chats as they are made secure by end-to-end encryption. However, there has been a 25% decrease in such forwards. It is also possible to flag suspicious content.
