Heart is considered as the seat of life. As long as the heart beats, you are alive and when it does not, it’s over with you…So; heart is one of the most vital organs of the human body. Today heart disease is one of the commonest lifestyle ailments and may affect even younger age groups like the ones in their 30’s and 40’s. Gone are the days when heart disease was considered as an age-related ailment. Number of heart cases in India has almost doubled across the past two decades and stats show that heart diseases are one of major causes of premature mortality in India.


Lack of awareness of the symptoms of heart attack among the people is one of the biggest problems faced by the Indian health sector. By the time, the patient party realizes that the chest pain a patient is experiencing isn’t the pain of heartburn (acidity) or indigestion it might be too late. So, never underestimate a chest pain…it could be the pain of a heart attack & any delays could cost you the life of your loved one!


The most common symptoms of a heart attack are:

  • Chest pain on the left side
  • Chest pain that feels like heaviness or pressure on the chest
  • Chest pain that radiates to the back
  • Chest pain that radiates to the jaw
  • Chest pain along with sweating
  • Chest pain along with nausea/vomiting
  • Chest pain that worsens if the patient exerts himself or herself
  • Indigestion & sweating occurring together


Most people in India fail to even imagine that the chest pain they are having could be the sign of a heart attack. They will apply on them all types of home remedies only to make things more critical. An approaching heart attack will definitely give some sort of warning signs to the patient and the biggest blunder on the part of the patient or his family is to ignore those signs and think that it’s because of a petty indigestion.


Whenever you or any of your family members experience any of the above symptoms, the first thing that needs to be done is call a doctor for checkup and go for the prescribed tests immediately. Awareness and timely measures can save many lives!
