Covid 19: Rajasthan CM demands the center to release more wheat

Ashok Gehlot writes to PM Modi

Thursday, 23rd April 2020

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot demands increase in wheat allotment for the state under Food Security Act by writing to the Prime Minister as the demand is increasing amid lockdown.

He writes asking the centre for 30,000MT of extra wheat for 54 lakh extra people between 2011 and 2019. He wrote, “The Centre has been giving 2.32 MT wheat for around 4.5 crore population in Rajasthan. In reality, the number of eligible persons has increased to over 5 crore”. He added, “While Manmohan Singh government gave a 3 per cent of GDP as stimulus package, Modi government has given only 0.8 per cent”.

Some of the mid-day meal stock has been diverted for Covid-19 relief to serve the needy under FSA. He demands help by quoting examples of the US which has allotted 10% of GDP as relief funds and UK, France and Germany which have allotted 15% for the same.
