Report of the Department of Homeland Security digs up dubious truths

Monday, 4th May 2020

According to US officials from the Intelligence Department, China has suppressed the enormity of coronavirus outbreak and has concealed facts regarding the contagiousness of the disease to hoard medical supplies that may be needed later to address the issue. The detailed report from Department of Homeland Security prepared on the data gathered by US officials has stated that China had ‘intentionally concealed the severity’ of Coronavirus outbreak from the entire world in the start 2020 January. The report was provided on 1st of May, 2020. The report was made in response to the intensified criticisms against China from Trump’s administration. Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State, said on Sunday that China is to be blamed for encouraging a global pandemic.

A caustic rhetoric pointing towards China matches well the voice of the US administration critics informing of China’s weak and inadequate response to the deadly virus. The political opponents of Donald Trump however have come up with criticisms against Trump telling that Trump has attempted to divert the at-home criticisms against him by pointing fingers at China who isn’t just a geopolitical danger but also a crucial trade partner of US. The statement put forth by the analysis declares that while downplaying the virus outbreak’s severity China has increased the imports of medical supplies and has decreased the exports. The analysis further points out that China concealed its import-export facts by "denying there were export restrictions and obfuscating and delaying provision of its trade data."

The analysis also reports that China avoided letting the WHO know of the contagiousness of the Coronavirus for a major part of the month of January so that it could get enough time to import foreign medical supplies like surgical gowns, gloves and face masks the import of which increased surprisingly and sharply during that time. The conclusions with regard to abnormal changes in China’s import-export trend as drawn from the report are based on 95% probability. As per the speculations of Trump, a fatal mistake on the part of China might have caused the pandemic. In this context the US Intelligence agencies told that they are probing on the notion put forth by Trump.

On the platform of ABC’s ‘The Week’ Pompeo confirmed that it is not yet confirmed that China has spread the virus intentionally but he also told all to recall China’s past history of infecting people worldwide and of running laboratories with poor infrastructure.
