How your child eats now will determine its health in future! If you encourage your child to have healthier food now, your child can keep obesity, heart diseases and overweight problems at bay later in life.


A study was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association to give parents solid strategies on building a healthy food condition for kids that focuses on helping them develop healthy eating habits in their childhood.   


Letting them to choose what to eat and how much to eat in a condition where the menu is full of healthy options helps them to decide better for themselves when it comes to food.


Alexis C Wood, researcher, stated: “Parents and caregivers should consider building a positive food environment centered on healthy eating habits, rather than focusing on rigid rules about what and how a child should eat”.


How can this be achieved?

  • Proper timing for having meals
  • Letting the children select from healthy options
  • New, healthy recipes to broaden the menu
  • Observing non-verbal as well as verbal hunger/fullness hints
  • By not forcing them to eat more
  • Not rewarding/punishing if they are picky


Wood added, “Children's eating behaviors are influenced by a lot of people in their lives, so ideally, we want the whole family to demonstrate healthy eating habits," said Wood”.
