Huge COVID-19 spikes in India

The COVID-19 death toll rose to about 2,415 in the country juxtaposed with a major spike in the total number of COVID cases that reached to 74,281 as recorded this morning. 3525 positive cases and a death toll of 122 were registered with the Union Health Ministry within a span of last 24 hours.

 

After the meeting with the CMs of the various states Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the country and the masses last night. He said that the deadly coronavirus cannot control our country. He made an announcement of the ‘Lockdown 4’ after the date of 17th of May in a new form and with new rules and also announced a stimulus package amounting to Rs 20 Lakh Crores in order to manage the travails of the deadly virus and over a month of nationwide lockdown.

 

  • Maharashtra is the worst hit state by Coronavirus. More than 1000 fresh cases were reported in the state in the last 24 hrs and that takes the total number of cases in Maharashtra to 24, 427. The 2nd most hit state is Gujarat and is followed by the state of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Delhi.
  • The business capital of the country, Mumbai is making the Indian government worried. Mumbai happens to be the most attacked city with near about 17 per cent of the country's Coronavirus cases coming from Mumbai alone. Near about 30 deaths were reported in the city of Mumbai on Tuesday, thus taking the Coronavirus death toll in Maharashtra to 60%. Another cause of worry is that the fresh Coronavirus cases in Mumbai are coming from the fresh belts of the city.
  • While reporting on the recovery rate in the country, the Union Health Ministry declared that the recovery rate in India was 32, 82% as recorded this morning. The total number of recovered patients in the country as reported by the Ministry was 24,386.
  • In the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the total coronavirus case number has spiked to 8,718. Koyambedu market; a veggie mart in the capital city of Chennai accounts for nearly 1,800 positive cases. Officials have estimated that near about 7,500 citizens could have acquired the deadly virus from that market area and predicted a similar kind of spike with respect to the number of cases in the course of this week highlight the need of accelerated targeted testing.
  • All the stranded people who are returning to the state of Assam will have to be on institutional quarantine followed by home quarantine for 14 days. This has been made a mandatory rule and was announced by the government of Assam on this Tuesday. When these people stay on home quarantine their homes would be labeled as containment zones. The state government’s announcement came soon after many stranded people reached the state from New Delhi this Tuesday by means of special train. Those people who have covid symptoms during the institutional quarantine period will go for the COVID-19 infection test.
  • A special economic upliftment package, that would be equivalent to nearly 10% of the country’s GDP would is likely to be the key feature of the "Aatma Nirbhar Bharat" meaning self-reliant India program, as cited by PM Modi last night during his address to the nation.
  • Nirmala Sitharaman, the country’s finance minister told that the package of Rs 20 lakh crore announced by Modi ji isn’t a financial package merely but is also a "reform stimulus and a mindset overhaul". Details related to the package will be shared by the finance minister soon as declared by PM Narendra Modi.
  • In his address to the nation PM Modi sounded very optimistic when he said: "Corona is here to stay, experts say. But we cannot let our lives be controlled by corona. We will have to live with it. We will wear masks and maintain physical distancing but not give up on our dreams,"
  • Jubilant Life Sciences Ltd, an Indian company said that it had signed a licensing agreement of non-exclusive nature to get the permission for selling experimental drug remdesivir for treatment of Covid. This drug is a product of Gilead Sciences Inc; a US Pharmaceutical Company that is allowing 127 countries of the globe to test the medicine and India is one among those 127 countries.

 

Worldwide, there are 42,61,944 patients of coronavirus. 2, 91,964 lakh patients have lost their lives to the virus. U.S.A is the worst hit by this dangerous coronavirus. USA now has 13,67,927 confirmed COVID-19 cases as per the reports obtained from the real-time tally conducted by the Johns Hopkins University.
