Updates on Union Home Minister's Meeting with All-party chiefs

Monday, 15th June 2020

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, will hold a meeting with all parties today to reevaluate and review the coronavirus management in the National Capital; i.e. Delhi and surrounding areas that include certain parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The meeting as per a note from the Ministry’s Office said that the meeting will conducted at 11 am today. The political parties that have been invited to this meeting are Delhi’s Ruling Party; i.e. the Aam Aadmi Party, the BJP Party, the Congress Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (Mayawati’s) and Samajwadi Party (Akhilesh Yadav’s).

The meeting will abide by the Supreme Court strictures on the states that are the worst hit Indian states pertaining to the Coronavirus pandemic and those states are Maharashtra, Delhi and the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh had sealed all the borders with the national capital spurred by an opinion that movement of people from the Capital and to the Capital was the cause of the spread of the coronavirus in the states.

Uttar Pradesh recently informed the Supreme Court that it would like to hold on to the restrictions pertaining to travelling as the number of COVID cases in the Capital city of Delhi are more up to 40 times when compared to the number of cases in Gaziabad and NOIDA. Haryana informed that it is ready to lift all travel restrictions.

After his meeting with Delhi’s CM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal this morning, Home Minister Amit Shah announced several measures pertaining to the management of COVID-19 in the Capital. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister and staffs from the State Disaster Management Committee also attended the meeting. The measures included the following:

  • Immediate arrangement of about 500 train carriages
  • Increasing the number of beds available for the COVID patients
  • Increasing the number of testing facilities

In the meeting the ministers present decided that Delhi will soon start getting random COVID-19 testing kits to bring about an increase in the number of COVID tests.
