Qutab Minar is a 73 m high victory tower, which was built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of the last Hindu kingdom of Delhi. The tower has five different floors, each characterized by a protruding balcony and sails with a diameter of 15 m at the base to only 2.5 m at the top.

The first three floors are made of red sandstone; the fourth and fifth floors are made of marble and sandstone. At the foot of the tower is the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the first mosque to be built in India. An inscription above the eastern door provocatively reports that it was built of material. Obtained from the demolition of the '27 Hindu Temples' in the courtyard of the mosque there is a 7 m high iron column. It is said that if you can put it down with your hands, your wish will come true. Qutab Minar are embroiled in controversy.

Some believe it was built as a victory tower to mark the beginning of Muslim rule in India.Others say that it served as a minaret for the muezzins to call the faithful to prayer, but no one can deny that the tower is one of the most beautiful monuments not only in India but also in the world.

The first Muslim ruler of Delhi, began building the Qutab Minar in AD 1200 but was only able to complete the basement. His successor Iltutmush added three more floors, and in 1368 Firoz Shah Tughlak built the fifth and final floor. The development of the architectural styles from Aibak to Tughlak can be clearly seen in the mine.

The relief work and even the materials used for construction are different. The 238 foot long Qutab Minar is 47 feet at the base and tapers to nine feet at the top. The tower is adorned with ribbons of inscription and four protruding balconies supported by ornate corbels.

Although the Quwwat Ui Islam (Light of Islam) Mosque in the Qutab complex is in ruins, it is one of the most magnificent structures in the world. ud-din Aibak began construction in 1193 and the mosque was completed in 1197.Iltutmush in 1230 and Alla-ud-din Khilji in 1315 completed the building. The main mosque consists of an inner and outer courtyard, which is decorated with axes and surrounded by columns.

Most of these axes come from the 27 Hindu temples that were looted to build the mosque. It is therefore not surprising that the Muslim mosque has typical Hindu ornaments. Near the mosque is one of the most curious antiques in Delhi, the Iron Pillar.
