Kerala Sees a Dip in Total Covid-19 Cases With 7,555 New Infections

Kerala logged 7,555 fresh COVID-19 cases in the span of a single day as per reports released on Sunday. The total number of samples tested for Covid-19 in 24 hours were 73,157. These figures suggest a dip in the number of daily coronavirus cases in the state which has been bearing the maximum caseload of the country’s total cases for the past several weeks now.

With Sunday’s figures, the cumulative figures in the state now stands at 48,54,321 and the test positivity rate was recorded at 10.38 percent.

The number of active cases also came down for the southern state as they recorded 87,593 active cases on the day. The number of people who recuperated form the illness was reported to be 10,773 on the same day. A total of 47,39,270 people were recovered from the disease so far.

As per reports from the state’s Health Department, only 10 per cent of the active cases are admitted in treatment centres at the moment. The occupancy of Intensive Care Units is currently at 1,442 and the number of more critical patients who are in need of ventilator support has been reported to be at 578 on Sunday.

While the number of new patients suffering from Covid-19 who had to be admitted in hospitals rose to 901, the total number of patients currently admitted in hospitals has steadily declined and is now standing at 10,205.

With the state recording 74 new deaths due to the infection, the total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in Kerala has climbed up to 26,865.

Individual districts have reported the following numbers with Thrissur accounting for the maximum caseload in the state.

Thrissur 998 cases, Ernakulam 975, Thiruvananthapuram 953, Kozhikode 746, Kottayam 627, Kollam 604, Kannur 446, Malappuram 414, Pathanamthitta 377, Idukki 365, Palakkad 345, Alappuzha 303, Wayanad 271 and Kasaragod 131 new cases.

Of the 10,773 people who recovered from the disease in the state, the district-wise statistics is as follows,

Thiruvananthapuram –1213, Kollam-549, Pathanamthitta-746, Alappuzha-546, Kottayam-546, Idukki-613, Ernakulam-1671, Thrissur-1172, Palakkad-681, Malappuram-907, Kozhikode-977, Wayanad-420, Kannur-601 and Kasaragod-131.
