With just months till the vital 2022 assembly elections, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav has published a 2 minute 19-second promotional video on Twitter, the party's and Mr Yadav's first campaign theme this election season.

"Sukh dukh main saath nibhaaya hai, sukh dukh main saath nibhaayenge," Mr Yadav wrote in the video song (have been with you through joy and sorrow and will continue to do so).

A large portion of the film promotes Akhilesh's significant initiatives while he was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to 2017.

At least 30 seconds of the video depicts the devastating impact of the Covid pandemic's second wave in the state between April and May, with images of lines outside oxygen refilling centres and TV headlines about bodies of suspected Covid patients floating in the Ganga or buried in shallow graves by the river.

Mr Yadav has ruled out any collaboration for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh election. In an exclusive interview with NDTV last week, Akhilesh Yadav said, "My experience with large parties is not positive; I will not form any coalition with them."

During his tenure as Chief Minister, the former Chief Minister also anticipated the BJP's defeat and accused Yogi Adityanath of obstructing development and fostering corruption and persecution. People nowadays are looking for change, he claims.

"I appeal to all who wish to defeat the BJP to help the Samajwadi Party," Mr Yadav added.

Days later, Mr Yadav's arch-rival and BSP Chief Mayawati announced that her party would run alone in the next state elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In the state, the BSP president also dismissed suggestions that her party would join forces with Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM.

"The news that the AIMIM and the BSP will fight the next assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh together has been broadcast on a media news channel since yesterday. This information is absolutely incorrect, deceptive, and unfounded. There isn't a shred of truth about this, which the BSP fiercely denies "Mayawati sent out a tweet.
